001.You act in TV series (“The Mill” from 2014), films ('Mayhew' from 2017) and theater (Batman Live from 2011) and do voice work (the video

game Star Wars: Battlefront II from 2017). If you have to make a choice from all your activities, which you prefer to do. What would this be?

I enjoy the variety of an actor’s life. Whether it concerns TV work, film, a play, games or commercials. The performance is always the same. To

breathe some life, energy and authenticity into the work you get. That always feels like a meaningful and fresh challenge. In 1994 I did a rock musical

called Bad Boy Johnny and the Prophets of Doom at the Union Chapel in London. I myself was in the musical part of the Cardinals and the

Ensemble. It was a lot of fun, but I am not a singer. I accepted that when I had in 2009 songs in my role as Ebenezer Scrooge in a Christmas theater

       show from A Christmas Carol.

002.You sometimes hear that every character that an actor or actress plays contains something of itself. Can you name both a agreement and a

big difference in character between yourself and Ray Crosby from the tv-series “Coronation Street” of 2019?

With each character you play, you need to draw on your own experiences or the sides of your own nature that befall the character. Ray is very

different from me as he is an arrogant, sleazy and unscrupulous businessman. Perhaps the biggest difference of all is his unwavering self-belief and

confidence that he can do whatever he wants and get away with it. I am much more insecure and concerned about what others think. If I had to

mention an agreement between us, it is that we both feel like an outsider. I have always felt a bit of a loner or outsider in whatever situation I find

myself. Despite being sociable and outgoing, I am quite shy and happy with my own company. I have a vintage furniture shop in London, which is a

nice sideline when I'm not working, specializing in Medieval design. Ray definitely could not belong to my circle of friends. He is far too flashy and

would be completely ridiculed. His value system is pretty much the opposite of everything my friends and I believe in. By his value system I mean the

idea that material objects such as money and status makes a man.

003.At what point in your career are you so far most proud and/or do you keep the best memories?

I am proud of lots of my work for different reasons. To work with so many interesting people. I love combinining work and travel. Like going all around

the world in 2011 and playing in various cities and arenas with Batman Live. But filming of the movie ‘Prey’ from 2016 in the Netherlands and the

movie ‘Mayhem’ from 2017 in Serbia also provide special and lasting memories. I really enjoyed doing in 2014 the TV series “The Mill”. The scripts

were great and the story important. It was disappointing that there was no new season after the second season. Sometimes it's a great fun to have a

smaller supporting role in a big drama where you can get your teeth into a character and make an impact in small bursts without perhaps the

pressure of carrying the story, like with me with the TV series “Poldark” from 2015.

004.Over the years you have worked with several Hollywood stars. However, who impressed you the most?

There are many people I have worked with who were either known or became extremely famous. For example, I worked with Catherine Zeta-Jones

and Ewan McGregor in the film 'Blue Juice' from 1995, with Steven Yeun in the film 'Mayhew' from 2017, with Idris Elba in film '100 Streets' from 2016

and with Jonathan Pryce in the TV Movie 'To Walk Invisible: The Brontë Sisters' from 2016. I think it would be unfair to say who impressed me the

most. They were all impressive in different ways and for different reasons. I can honestly say that I have met very few people who have disappointed

me and I couldn’t possibly name names. Like I said before, I care too much about what other people think. There are certain directors I would like to

work with, such as Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (from the film 'The Revenant' from 2015), Darren Aronofsky (from the film 'Black Swain' from

2010) or the brothers Benny and Josh Safdie (from the movie 'Uncut Gems' from 2019).

005.How do you look back on your time in Amsterdam in the Netherlands for making the film ‘Prey’ from 2016?

I absolutely loved filming the movie "Prey" in Amsterdam. Also, it was a privilege to work with such a Dutch legend as director Dick Maas. Filming

‘Prey’ was challenging because there were a lot of night shoots and it had been a long time since I had acted so extensively with CGI and special

effects, which is always a challenge because you never quite know what it will look like in the end. Dick, the producers and wonderful colleagues such

as Sophie van Winden (Lizzy in the film) all made me feel very much at home and even though I didn't speak the language I always made to feel part

of the team. I think Dick has a very specific tone in his movies. That's what makes them so wonderfully Dick Maas movies and the challenge was

getting that tone right. ‘Prey’ is a kind of genre film, with dark humor, shock and really thrilling elements. It doesn't take itself too seriously and yet at

the same time it has to be gripping. I especially struggled with getting that tone right, but I absolutely loved working with Dick. While filming on the

movie ‘Prey’, I fell in love with Amsterdam and it was a very special job.

006.From 2019 you played for two years in the TV series “Coronation Street”. How do you look back on this?

To play in “Coronation Street” has been a real privilege. Not least because I grew up watching British drama and working class stories. The TV series

“Coronation Street” has existed since 1960 and has such a great heritage. It was full of so many fine character actors when I was growing up. It has

been especially exciting to be involved and have an important storyline as part of the 60th anniversary of the series. “Coronation Street” is a huge

part of British television history, so to be involved at this historic moment for the series itself has been a real thrill.

007.What can we expect from you in the future in showbiz?

I have a small part in the remake of a British TV classic, “The Darling Buds of May”. It is not yet known when it will be on television. Also, I hope that I

can continue to have a varied career in many different kinds of things.
